Last week's holiday in the Charente (1) - Fouras

JL needed a break and with Friday being a public holiday, we left the previous Saturday to Fouras to visit the family.  Uncertain whether we will stay there for the whole week or travel to another region or back home, we've packed the suitcase for a week.  Initially we wanted to travel from Fouras to Toulouse, but as JL's daughter had other plans for the second weekend, we had to change our travel plans.  After cold rainy weather at the beginning of the week the weather cleared up and we had lovely sunshine weather with temperatures going up to 20°C during the day.  So we've managed to visit some places in the area, besides for spending time with the family.
Below: the difference between high and low tide is much bigger than in SA and during the low tide it is common to see boats stuck in the mud

Below: Fort Vauban (between south & main beach)
Above & below: JL's cousin managed to catch some fish in a net for us (and was so kind to clean it as well).  We were very happy that 2 of the 9 fish he got were bar.  This is an excellent fish, we love to cook it at home or to order it in a restaurant.  If ever you visit France you can definitely consider to order fish (remember 2 kinds - bar & dorade)

Below: on our way back from the wild coast we've made it just in time to take a photo from La Fumée, a tip of Fouras from where the ferry depart to île d'aix and where you'll find some oyster farmers selling oysters and mussels.
